Yes this is a wine glass that holds a full bottle of wine… although I wouldn’t like to think of the calories consumed after the bottle!
How many units are in different glasses of wine?
There are so many different sizes and shapes of wine glasses!
Below is a range of different size wine glasses, along with how many units each wine glass would contain depending on the percentage of ABV wine.

How do the units affect alcohol levels in blood?
- 10ml or 8 grams of pure alcohol is the equivalent of 1 unit
- The legal limit for driving in blood is 80 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 millilitres
- It only takes 30 minutes to an hour for 100% of the alcohol consumed to be absorbed
- 50% of the alcohol you have consumed will be in your bloodstream after just 10 minutes!
- One unit of alcohol per hour should be broken down by your body
What does your blood alcohol concentration depend on?
- Your sex (male/female)
- Your height/weight
- How much you have had to eat
- How long you have been drinking
- Your health issues
- Your metabolism rate
Size Does Matter!
- Try and avoid your alcohol consumption during the week, especially if you know you have to be up early for work the following day.
- Keep track of the amount of alcohol you consume.
- If you arrange a night out with a group of friends, arrange between you who will be the designated driver.
- Don’t take risks because the repercussions for being charged with drink driving are far-reaching
