Employee Benefits

We believe in attracting and retaining the best employees. We hope you will agree that we have created a fantastic workplace where people enjoy their jobs and feel proud to be part of the success of the team. To help achieve this we offer competitive salaries, an excellent benefits packages and a generous rewards scheme to all employees in our team.

Staff Benefits

Work environment

We’ve done our very best to make the office an exceptional place to work. We have lots of windows for natural light, fish and plants around the office improve the atmosphere, music playing in the office and we have used Feng Shui to ensure the balance is just right!

We’ve provided the little extras that most law firms ignore; things like posh hand soap, moisturiser and products in the bathrooms, a dressing room with GHDs, a bicycle for anyone to use at lunch time, a comfortable staff room with Netflix and a PlayStation, and much more.

Training and Development

We invest heavily in the training and development of all our staff. This can involve in-house training with our dedicated Training Officer, training from specialist barristers and experts, or attending external courses. If there are any specific courses or qualifications any member of staff wants to work towards, we ask them to put together a proposal for us to consider.

Career Progression

We have a clear and defined internal career progression plan. We like home grown talent here and we are proud that the majority of our solicitors started working for us as paralegals.

Annual salary reviews

All staff have an annual appraisal and a salary review. This is normally carried out in September each year. A salary increase is not guaranteed and is dependent on business performance and individual performance.

Living Wage

We are a living wage employer.

Flexible holiday options

We also offer a holiday buy back scheme based upon length of service.

2 hour lie in if you work on your Birthday

If you are working on the day of your birthday, you not have to get into the office until 2 hours after your normal start time.

After successful completion of the probation period, all team members will be enrolled in Perkbox. As a member of Perkbox, you get access to great perks, including things like reduced price cinema tickets, savings on Apple technology, and discounts all over the high street.

Death in service benefit

This applies to all employees regardless of length of service with the firm. Your nominated person(s) will be entitled to a lump sum payment on the event of your death whilst working for the firm which is the equivalent of 4 times your basic salary.

Pension Scheme

After 12 months service you will also be entitled to participate in the firm’s group pension scheme where we match your own contribution to the scheme up to a 3% maximum contribution.  The auto enrolment scheme will be starting in July 2017.

BHFS Cashplan

Upon joining the firm you are enrolled into the cashplan scheme full details of which will be sent to you directly from BHFS upon joining. This is like a “light” healthcare scheme.

The firm offers private healthcare to members of staff who have worked for the firm for 2 years.

Staff Savings Club

If you want to have a little bit of extra money in your November pay packet (in time for Christmas shopping!), we offer a staff savings club where a contribution to your savings pot is deducted from your salary each month and the savings paid to you in November.

Charitable support

Each year we will support 3 people who wish to do something generous for others by way of sponsorship and flexibility. We ask the team to give us their applications for consideration by 31 May each year. The Management team decide upon the 3 individuals that the firm will be supporting that year in their charitable endeavours.

IT equipment

If your role needs you to work from home or away from the office we will provide you with an iPhone and laptop so you can complete your role properly.

We know working at the firm can involve peak periods of pressure and challenge. This can make it difficult to keep a ‘spring in your step’ sometimes and is one of the reasons why, in 2019, the Management team introduced a number of measures to promote and maintain everyone’s wellness including a wellness morning in the last Friday of each month.

Activities on wellness mornings range from complimentary massages, guided meditation sessions, and yoga classes.

We value loyalty here and we invest more than we ever have before in training and making the work environment a pleasant place for you to be. We want you to want to stay here and help us grow and develop as a firm. To show this commitment to our team we offer an increase in holiday entitlement for every year a team member is here at the firm. Holiday allowance will increase after 1 year’s service by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 25 days per year.

Other Rewards

Dress down Friday

Dress down day will take place every Friday and you may wear casual clothes appropriate for the office.  If you have a pre-scheduled appointment with a client, at Court or with anyone who is not an employee of the firm you will be excluded from the dress down day and you will be expected to dress in clothes appropriate to a professional office.

The following refreshments are provided free of charge, available to all team members:

  • Nespresso coffee
  • A variety of fresh fruit
  • Squash, a variety of teas and coffee

Fun committee

It is important to the firm to cultivate a team spirit and organise a variety of events or activities to promote this. These are organised and planned by the Fun Committee and all staff are encouraged to suggest ideas for these events or activities. Historically they have included:

Ad-hoc recognition

We believe that there are lots of occasions when individuals really show that they are truly aligned with our values. We also believe in immediately identifying clear demonstrations of performance that is aligned with our values and we have a number of smaller rewards, which we present to recognize this. The mini-rewards range from a 1 hour lie in, lunch voucher, amazon voucher or a personal gift.

Financial Rewards and Incentives

We have a number of schemes to reward employees for individual and collective performance on a quarterly basis. The reward schemes are applicable to all employees once they have passed their probation period successfully. Details of the schemes are published annually and are subject to the discretion of management.
