Saint Patrick’s Day is the celebration of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. According to tradition, Patrick returned to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity. It is told that Patrick died on 17 March and was buried at Downpatrick.

Now a global celebration, it has come to be known as the day that is associated with green hats, shamrock glasses and a pint of Guinness.
There are many ways to celebrate St Patrick’s day in the UK. From parades to live music and guaranteed drink offers in your local pub.

Shamrock Juice Cocktail
Fill a glass with ice and pour in the liquors and top off with the orange juice.
- 15ml gin
- 15ml white tequila
- 15ml light rum
- 15ml vodka
- 30 ml blue curacao
- 120ml orange juice
Honeydew Martini
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice. Pour all your ingredients in with it. Shake it up well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass.
- 45ml vodka
- 15ml ounce Midori
- 15ml triple sec
Did you know?
St. Patrick’s Day was traditionally a dry holiday, so if you want to stick to tradition don’t drink at all. However, if you do fancy a tipple in honour of St Patrick please be aware of your alcohol elimination rates if driving to work the next day.
Autocar.co.uk found that 5500 people fail breath tests between 6am and midday every year which makes up 20% of Drink Driving convictions.
So if you’re toasting to St Patrick with a Guinness and an Irish stew, why not take alternative transport the next day?
