I received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for speeding which I duly filled in and posted. It was only a few hours later that I realised that my husband and not I had been driving at the time of the offence. We both wrote to the Met Camera Processing Services explaining the error and asking that the matter be redirected to my husband. These had no affect and I then received an ‘invitation’ to attend a National Speed Awareness Course, which I could not do, since I had not been the driver.

I was caught speeding whilst driving on a provisional licence after having my full license revoked for getting 6 points within the first two years of passing my driving test.

14 months ago, I managed to get myself caught speeding, triggering a court appearance as it got me to 12 points. One month later, three points dropped off my licence and then two weeks later I was caught speeding again (no excuses, just total lack of concentration). I still hadn’t been to court for the first problem.

I had 9 points on my license, was summoned for speeding in 30mph at 42mph. Three points normal penalty would result in automatic driving disqualification at 12 points.

Due to the significance of my financial contribution to our small 5 person company, there was a real risk of causing exceptional hardship to individuals in the business if I was unable to drive to clients and complete regular work. The reduction of income or even the loss of the clients could have led to staff reductions to enable survival. If we had to cut staff the viability of the business would come into question.

Since I was already drawing a negligible salary and had re-mortgaged to fund the business and staffing, I had no ability to provide more funding to tide us over any ban I might receive and the loss of income if I was not able to do client work.

There was consistent communication with the Geoffrey Miller team and detailed discussion about legal options to be applied at my hearing. I had pleaded guilty, and only needed to avoid the damage to others a disqualification from driving would have caused.
