I thought that my life had come to an end when I was found guilty of taxi touting. I am a private hire driver and am only allowed to take passengers if they have a booking. I am always so careful to stick to the rules because I know that even the slightest violation could mean that I am never allowed to drive a taxi again.
One evening I had a booking to pick up a passenger in Croydon Town Centre. I was waiting for them to get into the taxi when unknown to me an undercover police officer got into my taxi and told me where he wanted to go. All of a sudden I was arrested, it was a genuine mistake, I thought that the officer was my booked passenger. He even phoned the taxi base to tell them to cancel the reservation.
I felt like I was in my worst nightmare when the magistrates convicted me, they even said that my insurance was invalidated and gave me points for that. The barrister who represented me at the trial reported back to my original solicitors (not Geoffrey Miller Solicitors) who told me that I should not appeal.
I turned to Geoffrey Miller Solicitors for help. Stephen Oldham dealt with my case from the start. He interviewed witnesses, reviewed all of the evidence and appealed my case to the Crown Court at Croydon. No stone was left unturned. Eventually the case went before the judge who told me that my appeal was successful. I was no longer guilty, there were no points on my licence. I can continue to work as a taxi driver.
Thank you Geoffrey Miller Solicitors.
