TRAFFIC LIGHT OFFENCE

Geoffrey Miller Solicitors are specialists at defending Traffic Light Offences. Call our team of expert motoring solicitors for some free initial advice.

Did you know the 100th anniversary of the electric traffic light was celebrated in 2014? The life-saving idea began in London in the 1860s, but it took another 40 years for it to be perfected by the Americans.  Today we are all familiar with the concept of the traffic light and they have been a common feature on the British landscape for decades.

Nevertheless many drivers find themselves liable to offences associated with the device. If you are found guilty of running a red light offence you are liable to a fine of up to £1000 and 3 penalty points on your licence.

But I Went Through On Amber?

The Highway Code requires all drivers to stop behind the white line when the red light is illuminated. A motorist may only drive when given the green light and only then if it is safe to do so. A common misconception is that the amber signal allows drivers to proceed. It does not. When the amber light is flashing you must stop unless you have already passed the white stop line, or if your vehicle is so close to the line it would be unsafe to apply the breaks. You can read more about the little-known rules of the amber signal on this Confused.com about “amber gamblers”.

Nowadays many traffic lights are fitted with cameras which will record the details of vehicles who breach the rules of the road and run red lights. Offenders will be contacted about the offence in due course. Alternatively a policeman may witness the red light offence and choose to issue a fixed penalty notice directly to the driver.

Each offence comes with its own set of circumstances and a good motoring solicitor will be able to help if you feel you had just cause for committing such an offence. Perhaps you were forced to run the light to avoid a potential accident, or maybe you had to drive onwards to make way for an emergency vehicle. What if the traffic light had malfunctioned? There are so many possible situations so it is always best to take professional legal advice.

Not Sure What to Do About A Traffic Light Offence?

Most people who get in touch with our team of motor offence expert solicitors are uncertain of their options. They are unaware of any legal defences that may be available and find it difficult to believe that it might be possible to defend the drink driving offence charge they face by using loopholes that apply to the rich and famous! We do represent celebrities but we also represent many hardworking motorists like Brian and we want to help you make the right choice about what you do next.

We are always more than happy to chat things through with potential clients Free of Charge. Call us now on Freephone 0800 1389 123 to speak to one of our specialist red light offence motoring solicitors. It is only once you decide to instruct us that payment will become necessary and we can often arrange installment plans to assist you. Many satisfied clients have thanked us for offering this free consultation service as it has prevented them from following inaccurate non-expert advice which could have led to them accepting a driving ban unnecessarily.

If you would like to spend more time browsing on the site before you get in touch, make sure you have a look at our specialist motor offence guidance features such as our drink driving penalties calculator which will help you to determine the penalty you may face if convicted and our money saving calculator which helps to outline some of the hidden costs of accepting a conviction.

We think we are simply the best in the business but if you are not satisfied in taking our word for it, our unique “ask our clients” testimonials scheme allows you to contact previous clients of the firm to seek a completely independent reference about us and what we might be able to do for you.
