Why Geoffrey Miller Solicitors?

Communication

Before you decide whether or not we are the firm for you, we think it is essential that you speak to a lawyer at our offices. For this reason, we do not charge potential clients to make an initial enquiry. Usually, potential clients need an immediate response to their questions and whilst we have tried to make this site as informative and easy to use as possible, nothing beats speaking to someone directly to receive the reassurance you need and the basic facts about the possible options available. PLEASE CALL US if you want to know how we may be able to help you.

One of the most common complaints from clients about members of the legal profession is that solicitors are forever unavailable in meetings when a client needs to speak to them.

We operate differently to most lawyers because if you choose to instruct Geoffrey Miller Solicitors, you will be provided with the following contact details for the solicitor who is your main caseworker:

  • Direct Telephone Number (Available during office hours)
  • Mobile Telephone Number
  • E-mail address
  • Switchboard Number

Therefore, if you are told your lawyer is “in a meeting” when you call, it will be because they are! The nature of the work we do means that our lawyers will often be in court where phones must be switched off or we can be found to be in contempt of court and sent to the cells! It is therefore inevitable that there will be times when despite the efforts we go to, you will not be able to speak to your lawyer immediately. However, one of the advantages of instructing Geoffrey Miller Solicitors is that we always have a presence of lawyers in the office during working hours. We also have a sophisticated computerised case management system enabling anyone from within the firm, including our highly trained administrative team to call up your details and answer questions you may have even if your main caseworker is not available.

Options

At Geoffrey Miller Solicitors we aim to guide you through all stages of motor law proceedings. To maximise the chances of success, we recommend that you contact us at the earliest opportunity (as soon as a notice of intended prosecution is received). However, we can also assist you if you already have a court date, even if it is tomorrow! If you have been told that you do not have a defence, we urge you to take a second opinion from our specialist team. Clients often come to us having been told that they have no defence only to be subsequently successfully defended by us in Court. We only defend. Our main aim is to ensure that you're found not guilty. Where no defence exists, or you're convicted, our expert team will aim to ensure that you are not disqualified.

Press Relations Service

Many clients who instruct us are concerned about avoiding publicity about their case. The press are not usually interested in a general motor offence prosecution unless there are unusual features in a case such as a very high speed or a high profile client. However, motor offences can be a “sexy” subject for the press. In fact, something as seemingly mundane as a laser gun that recorded an inaccurate speed led to our case involving Mr Wiltshire in Preston Crown Court being featured in the national press and on ITV’s Driving Me Crazy series (with our Mr Wiltshire’s permission and co-operation, of course.) There is usually a court reporter in most of the larger courts in the country but if it is your wish to avoid publicity, we will do everything we can to achieve this. Sometimes, despite our best efforts the press show interest in our cases and we have a dedicated Press Relations service to any client who wishes to field press calls via this service.

Special Requests

We believe very strongly in providing a service to suit you and so if you have any special requirements, we are usually able to accommodate these. Examples of bespoke service requirements are as follows:

  • Always use stamps and not franking on letters we send so that family members are unaware of the origin of our letters;
  • Deal with client’s p.a. or spouse in place of the client in relation to all arrangements bar taking statements and discussing tactics;
  • Invoice discreetly so that details of allegations or the fact you face a prosecution do not appear on your invoices;
  • Telephone contact rather than face to face meetings, and
  • Evening and weekend appointments to fit in with you and your schedule.
