Traffic light contraventions

Prosecutions for traffic light violations are increasingly based upon evidence from detection devices and cameras. As such (as with speed detection devices) it must be shown that they are correctly calibrated and operated to successfully prove a violation. It must also be shown that the traffic signal itself was correctly operational.

Punishment

Failing to comply with traffic directions is punishable by way of a fine of up to £1000, discretionary disqualification or 3 penalty points.
