Legal Aid

Unfortunately, legal aid is largely unavailable for motoring offences as penalties are not perceived as serious enough for public funding to apply. If you are facing a more serious offence with a risk of a prison sentence, legal aid may be available if you use a legal aid franchise firm but it is not available for representation from Geoffrey Miller Solicitors.

Bursary

Occasionally we are prepared to consider an individual’s financial and personal circumstances and offer a bursary to assist with finances required for our representation. These are usually awarded after a ‘means test’ of family income and are not solely dependent on case circumstances.

To obtain a bursary, potential clients must fill in an application form, giving details of their financial circumstances, supported by documentary evidence, including capital assets. The application will be considered by the firm in accordance with its bursary policy.

Legal Expenses Insurance

Many motoring policies contain a provision for your defence costs to be paid under the terms of a legal expenses policy. If you have legal expenses cover to assist with this case, please inform us immediately so that we can make the necessary arrangements for the insurer to agree to indemnify your costs.

Please note most insurers have non-expert panel solicitors to represent policyholders under the terms of the policy. Despite what your insurers may tell you, you have freedom of choice to appoint your own solicitors and we are happy to assist in liaising with the insurers on your behalf.
